I'm Bartell Rivera, Psy.D., a licensed psychologist in San Diego, California. Welcome. Taking the step to seek therapy is a courageous decision, and it is my goal to provide a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathetic space where you can feel truly heard and supported. I work with diverse individuals and couples to help them navigate life's complexities and foster meaningful personal growth.
I believe therapy must be deeply collaborative and centered on the therapeutic relationship. I honor you as the absolute expert of your own lived experience. Rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all mentality, I look forward to exploring what has worked for you in the past, what hasn't, and how we can combine your personal insights with my expertise in therapeutic interventions to address the unique challenges you face. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed by daily stressors, navigating a difficult transition, or seeking to improve your relationships, we will work together to develop the tools and understanding necessary to help you thrive.
I work with individuals and couples experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, identity-related concerns, addictive behavior and substance use, anger management, self-injury, suicidal thoughts, communication and conflict resolution, and personal growth.
Individual Therapy | Couples Therapy | Areas of Focus
My work draws from several evidence-based practices including Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Contextual Trauma Therapy (CTT), and Family/Marital Therapy.
I integrate approaches based on the needs and goals of the people I work with rather than assuming that one method is right for everyone.

Beginning therapy can feel uncertain. Our initial conversations are an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you hope to change, and whether we may be a good fit.
You are welcome to ask questions about the therapy process, fees, scheduling, and approach before deciding whether to begin.
If you're considering therapy in San Diego or through telehealth in California, I invite you to schedule a brief consultation.
